Alcoholic Liver Disease

Alcohol remains one the main cause for chronic liver disease. The risk factor for this disease is variable not everyone will get this disease who drinks heavily. It does not occur below a threshold of 21 units/week in women and 20 units/men. This disease affects the person who drunk for more than five years. Some risk factors for this disease are drinking patterns, gender, genetics, nutrition etc. Alcohol is metabolised by liver. The pathological features of this disease are cirrhosis, iron deposition, alcoholic hepatitis. This alcoholic hepatitis can be identified by presence of jaundice. Cessation of alcohol consumption is the single most treatment without this all other preventive measures is of limited value.
